Garden City
(Part of Artwalks coinciding with Letchworth Festival (June 2024). Artwalks is an art trail/group exhibition using public spaces around Letchworth’s town centre throughout June 2024.)This work responds to Letchworth as the first Garden City in the world. Using my photographic documentation of the town, I created digital collages that explore architectonic forms through the repetition of images. I also incorporated a selection of artificial flowers, purchased from a local shop into the installation.
Over several days of walking and informal conversations with residents, I observed the pride and care invested in both private and community gardens. The work reflects on this local culture of tending and cultivation, considering the garden not only as a material space, but as a symbol of civic imagination and collective care.
