Who’s Hungry?

Who's Hungry?  is a bimonthly gathering for artists and creatives. It is an extension of my creative practice, merging artistic collaboration with community-building in a tangible, nourishing form.

At its core, it echoes the ethos of the 1960s art movement known as "Happenings," where art was experienced collectively, blurring the boundaries between artist and audience, work and life. Through the shared act of dining, Who's Hungry? transforms the meal into a participatory artwork, where the line between collaborators and participants dissolves, allowing everyone to contribute to a collective experience.

Much like how Happenings democratised art by taking it out of galleries and into everyday life, Who's Hungry? fosters an inclusive space accessible to all. The "pay what you can" model reflects this principle of democratisation—ensuring that artists and creatives of all economic backgrounds can participate fully, without the burden of financial constraints. In this sense, Who's Hungry? is not just an event; it is a social practice that actively resists the elitism often associated with the art world.

The communal act of preparing, creating, and sharing these meals ties into the core values of my creative practice: it’s a medium for connection and exchange. In a fast-paced, often fragmented creative landscape, Who's Hungry? aims to slow things down, encouraging genuine dialogue and collaboration. It offers a space for creatives to connect not only with each other, but also with the communal and nurturing aspects of artistic practice that are often neglected amid professional and personal obligations.

By making nourishment—both physical and emotional—the centrepiece of these gatherings,  aims to embody a deeper philosophy of care, generosity, and sustainability. It’s not just about food, but about feeding the creative spirit, creating a space where people feel seen, heard, and supported within a larger ecosystem. In this way, Who's Hungry?  functions as both a creative platform and a form of communal care, offering sustenance to the body and fostering creative connections.
